Brendel and Bollet are great for this, Kissin ok, but for me Andrei Gavrilov owns this one! He plays at beathneck speed but yet very musical!

décidemment je n'arriverai jamais à me faire à la manière dont tous les pianistes même les plus grands jouent le premier trille de main gauche avec un crescendo alors qu'il faut évidemment un diminuendo. Suis-je seul à le penser ? Henri Lejeune m'a fait travailler le diminuendo pendant des semaines.

Apres Dinu Lipatti (qui demeure et pour très longtemps encore au-dessus du lot), le seul qui est (à mon humble avis), de nos jours, aussi unique et irremplaçable, c'est : Ivo Pogorelich. (Ces propos n'engagent que leur auteur. 😌b).

I am a violinist. His Chopin performance is extraordinary, special, and tearfully beautiful. It's a shame that the great performance could have been enjoyed by the wider public if it had been recorded with modern recording technology

Rarefied. Dinu at this point had one foot in heaven. This nocturne was an encore for a concert with Otto Ackermann that included the Chopin E minor concerto, also heavenly and more vigorous than we might have expected so late. A transfer of the first movement with much improved sound can be found on UA-cam. Thanks for sharing!

I piano teacher that I knew 30 years ago said that Lipatti played this piece at his only ever concert in London which he attended.

gorgeous interpretation from a great artist

Even though I like Rubinstein's version as well, I have to say I prefer this interpretation. There is a certain lightness and airiness in this piece that's simply lovely.
